Highlights
This scramble though not as high as some offers very nice views
for the effort. It extends a popular hiking trail to an abandoned fire lookout.
Getting There
Head west out of Calgary on the TransCanada highway # 1 to Lake
Louise 187km (116.9 miles). Continue west on the TransCanada for another 15km (9.4 miles)
to the West Louise Lodge. Just past the Lodge is a small parking lot called the Wapta Lake
Picnic Area. Its a right hand turn into this lot.
Route Description
From here follow the Sherbrooke Lake / Paget Fire Lookout trail
which is found near the picnic shelter. At the first trail split keep left as the right
trail heads back down to the West Louise Lodge. At the next junction (1.4km) take the
right hand trail which is relatively level for a while until you begin switchbacks up the
west side of Paget Peak. Upon reaching the lookout (3.5km) youve covered about 2/3
of the elevation and are treated to the imposing view of Mt. Stephen which overlooks
Field. From here continue on to the summit with views expanding to the north. Dont
be deceived by the first hump north of the lookout, its not the summit. Gain this
first hump and the true summit comes into view. Easy scrambling all the way.
