Canmore Spray Lakes Hikes and Scrambles
Unfortunately the Alberta Government mid 2021 now wants to charge you $90 annually ($15 for a day pass) to drive down highway 40 where there is basically no services other than a couple of gas stations, a Tim Hortons and a casino. It also includes the Spray Lakes area, the Bow Valley where there are public lands and the Canmore Nordic Center.

Some nice scrambles here are East End of Rundle, Ha Ling Peak, Heart Mtn, Door Jamb, Snow Peak et al.
A Small Rant
One thing that I do find especially annoying is the unpaved road up past the Nordic Center to the Goat Creek parking lot and all the way along Spray Lakes. Especially as you drive by mountain bikers eating dust all the way up the hill. Perhaps someone can inform me of the issues and educate me. For now it seems a little out of place that a road coming out of a mountain town with the usual exorbitant real estate prices is a rutted dust cloud of a road. I have heard a saying that the wilderness is to be kept "for the people" and not setup to keep the wilderness "from the people".
